This Standard, developed by The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, replaces the framework, which has been in use since 2010. It reflects the current role of pharmacy support staff in modern pharmacy practice.

A Pharmacy Support Worker works under the supervision of a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in all areas of pharmacy practice, including community (High Street) pharmacies, hospitals, dispensing practices and prisons. At Skills4Pharmacy we have taken the Level 2 Apprenticeship standard and looked at ways in which we can be sure it meets the needs of pharmacy employers and provides flexibility and adaptability.

Learners who register with Skills4Pharmacy will undertake a blended course which consists of live tutorials delivered by video conferencing, recorded sessions, self-directed study, for example, research activities, work books. Learners will also undertake work-based learning in the pharmacy under the guidance and supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician who takes responsibility for the apprentices development. They will collect evidence of this learning and build a portfolio which will prove evidence of their competence. Each learner will be assigned to a designated tutor who will guide them through every step of their journey. They will be set tasks and attend live and recorded video sessions all along side working first hand in a pharmaceutical setting.

At the end of the course, the learner will meet the Apprenticeship standard at level 2 and will undertake an independent End Point Assessment provided by Pearsons End Point Assessment Organisation. Our course also meets GPhC’s requirements for initial education and training for pharmacy support workers and is accredited by GPhC.
